Phytochemical Analysis Of More Helichrysum Species: Helichrysum decorum DC, Helichrysum lepidissimum S. Moore, and Helichrysum umbraculigerum are three other Helichrysum species(or "strains") traditionally used in the South African indigenous ethnobotanical medicine.[11] Here are some more scholarly facts regarding the phytochemical constituents produced by these related strains: "Fractions of the volatile organic compounds of the three species were rich in monoterpene hydrocarbons, representing more than 70% of the total composition. Pinene isomers were the most representative compounds: β-pinene in H. decorum (53.0%), and α-pinene in H. lepidissimum (67.9%) and H. umbraculigerum (54.8%)."[11] More details on the analysis: "These latter two species evidenced an important amount of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (SH) especially represented by γ-curcumene (H. lepidissimum) and α- and β-selinene (H. umbraculigerum)."[11]

The academic source I just cited for those vitro studies goes on to state that: "Regarding Helichrysum italicum in vivo activity, the highlight goes to the anti-erythematous and photoprotective activities of its flavonoids, demonstrated both in animals and humans, and to the anti-inflammatory properties exhibited by its flavonoids, acetophenones and phloroglucinols, as seen in animal models."[12]
Safety: "Concerning its safety and adverse effects, while Helichrysum italicum does not display significant levels of cytotoxicity or genotoxicity, it should be noticed that one of its flavonoids inhibited some CYP isoforms and a case has been reported of an allergic reaction to its extracts."[12]
Mixes well with: Based on what I know about various ethnobotanicals, it should go well with MAOI producing plants like Passion flower(passiflora incarnata), Bobinsana, Banisteriopsis caapi, Silene capensis, and other cannabinoid producing ethnobotanicals like Cacao, or Echinacea purpurea, or even straight up Cannabis as well. Understanding the similarities between the phytochemical constituents of different plants, helps to understand how to prepare natural medicines better.
